In the previous episodes, Barry disintegrated during a particle accelerator explosion meant to give him his powers back. Presumed dead, this episode picks up with the team left stunned by Barry's absence while dealing with the unconscious Wally and Jesse who were knocked out by the particle wave. Both Wally and Jesse are alive but Jesse's heart had stopped and she is left in a comatose state.
In some form of non-existent dimension, the Speed Force takes form as Barry’s love ones to help him learn a valuable lesson. Through a series of obstacles, Barry reunites with Nora. The Speed Force takes on Nora’s form to help him accept that her death was not his fault. He doesn’t have to take on the weight of the world when people die or get hurt.
This lesson, and Iris’s help,brings Barry back to his earth. While he was away,Girder(Tony Woodward) became reanimated as a side-effect of the particle accelerator exploding again.
The gang quickly figure out that Tony is after Iris. They devise a plan to take him down, but fail. Barry defeats Tony once he returns to his earth. Later, Barry and Iris visit Nora’s grave. Barry then takes the opportunity to tell Iris that they may not have defined their relationship, but she will always be the one to bring him home.
Meanwhile, Zoom informs Caitlin that he plans to destroy her friends. She can either join his side or die with her friends. He then goes to give a speed to an army of meta-humans from Earth-2.
