Game Of Thrones Season 6 Episode 7: “ The Broken Man ” [Recap]

Last week, “Game of Thrones” re-set its feet, caught its breath and followed up with some characters, such as Arya Stark, Margaery Tyrell and Samwell Tarly, whose dragon- and White Walker-free story lines needed attention and forward momentum. Now, with the sixth season working through its latter half, it’s time to pick up the pace again, and that means narratives must collide.

This week episode brought with it countless shocks and potential plot twists that will make the next three episodes will massively influential to how the whole series finishes. We had the return of a favourite character and the death of another so it’ll be interesting to see what direction the show’s creators will take and how it will different from the novel Winds of Winter.

The Stark Army

John and Sansa are desperately trying to get any northern houses to pledge themselves to the Stark family but with many feeling betrayed by Robb it is proving hard to come by. We witness John win over the Wildling’s as they feel like they owe him after all he has done for their kin.

In an attempt to get more support Sansa writes to Baelish “Now you have a chance to fulfil your promise… Knights of the Vale are under your command. Ride north for Winterfell. Lend us your aid and I shall see that you are rewarded.” As we know he isn’t to be trusted so this could end up as a huge mistake.

The Northern Queen of Sass

During the Stark’s quest for soldiers we meet Lyanna Mormont who immediately shoots down any attempts of flattery until Ser Davos Seaworth reasons with her. Lyanna’s character was great but is worth noting is that she is named after Ned’s sister who is allegedly the true mother to John Snow – a nod to L+R=J.

The Hound Is Back!!!

You only needed to look at the title of the episode and recent hype around this theory to see that it was coming. Sandor is trying to become a pacifist and leave behind his former self, he bonded with the leader of the community but soon realised that his past will always come back to haunt him. The Brotherhood Without Banners, who he fought before, came and slaughtered the innocent people and we will now see The Hound seek vengeance.

The Lannister

While Cersei is losing all control in Kings Landing we could soon see Jaime regain his honour and fight for what is right. After his meeting with Black Fish, Jaime appears to be beaten and knows that he is fighting a battle that he can’t win, and with Brienne heading to House Tully, it wouldn’t be too farfetched for him to make a bold statement of intent.

This theory would see Jaime teaming up with the Tully’s to fight alongside the Starks against the Bolton’s. Why would he do this? It is well known that the Frey’s are scum and, bearing in mind that it was the Bolton’s who chopped off Jaime’s hand, he would certainly have just cause for taking up arms against them.

The Faith-Less

Margaery is currently playing the Game of Thrones flawlessly, as she answers every question perfectly to the High Sparrow, even saying that she doesn’t have any urges of her own and only wants to serve the King. Her performances were extremely convincing but as she passed her grandmother, The Queen of Thorns, a drawing of a rose it confirmed that it’s all an act and she has an agenda of her own.

Arya Gets Stabbed

Faceless Men are supposed to be unwavering in their kills, and Jaqen told the Waif to make it quick and painless. The Waif, if she was really a Faceless man, would not have stabbed Ayra in the stomach and twisted the knife in Arya's gut, so as to cause her more pain. Perhaps Jaqen knew that the Waif wasn't ready either and since she has failed the Many Faced God, her life might have to be sacrificed.

What we have learned from GoT though is that if you don’t see them physically die then don’t presume they are dead. I can see her bumping into Gendry on her in the next episode and heading back to Westeros but rumour has it he is still rowing…
